June 4, 1933 - April 4, 2024

In loving memory ~

With heavy hearts we said goodbye to our beautiful mum Ina June Irwin on April 4th, 2024. Ina was born in Regina, Sask. on June 4th, 1933 to Charlie and Hona Blair. The family moved to Port Alberni in 1936 where she and younger brother Bob were raised.

It was in Port Alberni that Ina was introduced to Robert John Irwin. They married on July 4th, 1952 and were fortunate to share 63 wonderful years together. With Dad's retirement they began many great travel adventures, exploring Britain, Scotland, Ireland and Wales and traveling as far as Australia and Hong Kong. Mum's favorite destination was the Hawaiian Islands and they returned annually for many years.

Ina was a great supporter of the Crofton Community Centre, acting as Treasurer as well as volunteering with catering. Working as cashier at the weekly Bingo games she thoroughly enjoyed returning home with ice cream pails of coins to count and roll.

Mum loved the freedom of her own vehicle and having taught her to drive Dad would say that 'putting wheels under your mother was like throwing gas on a fire'. When no longer required to chauffeur us kids to endless practices and events Ina continued driving 'the girls' to weekly lunches and on countless day trips (sometimes just taking herself to town, enjoying the shops and probably a drive-thru).

In 2009 Ina suffered a difficult loss with the passing of dear friends Fern and Len, it was wonderful of Willow and Tammy to help fill that void. Unfortunately during the last year of her life mum faced several devastating health challenges. Her strength and courage were inspiring but she grew weary of the battle.

Ina passed at home surrounded by the love of her family, with the same grace and dignity as she'd lived.

Predeceased by her husband and brother she leaves to mourn son Richard (Gaileen) daughters Lynda, Bonnie and Cindy. Grandchildren Tovay, Todd and Skye, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends. A special thanks to Dr Maggie Watt for her dedicated care and to Dr Gisela Wenzel-Smith.

There will be no service as per her request.

Forever in our hearts dear mum.

Rest in peace.
