Easter egg-stravanganzas hop into Cowichan Valley this long weekend

Those 17 and under get into Malahat Skywalk for free until April 1 when an adult ticket is purchased

Easter is coming to Cowichan this weekend. Here is a list of some family friendly events happening throughout the valley that families can attend as they celebrate some Easter eggs-travaganzas throughout the long weekend together.

Take Easter fun to new heights at the Malahat Skywalk from March 29 to April 1 with a fun and unique Easter egg scavenger hunt for children of all ages. This will involve finding 10 differently designed (black and white) Easter eggs hidden throughout the attraction. Those who complete the hunt will receive a special prize. There will be live music on March 30, and kids can get their faces painted to look like their favourite Easter or other characters on March 31, and April 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Through April 1, children and youth (17 and under) receive free admission when one adult ticket is purchased.

Families can fill up on Easter fun at Fuller Lake Park starting at 10 a.m. on March 30. The Municipality of North Cowichan has leveled the playing field for toddlers five and under with a dedicated space to hunt; those who find special eggs will be awarded a prize. The fun continues after the hunt with face painting, lawn games, a photo wall and a chance to meet Mr. Cottontail. The hunt begins at 10 a.m. sharp and Easter activities run until noon followed by an Easter skate at Fuller Arena from 12 to 2 p.m.

On March 30 Ladysmith families are encouraged to bring their kids eight and under and their own basket to the Transfer Beach playground to meet the Easter Bunny at 10:30 a.m. followed by an Easter Egg hunt at 11 a.m.

Mill Bay families will want to hop down to Mill Bay Centre on March 30 by the tent in the parking lot for an Easter egg hunt starting at 10 a.m. sharp. This event will take place rain or shine and all participants are expected to bring their own baskets.

On March 31, Lake Cowichan families can hop on over to Saywell Park for some free Easter fun beginning at noon with hot dogs, live music, and face painting. The Easter hunt is on at 12:30 p.m. and will be split into two age groups, and a surprise guest will make an appearance at 1 p.m. All proceeds from hot dog purchases will go towards the Lake Cowichan Food Bank Society.

On March 31, families will want to grab their Easter baskets and head down to Currie Park in Duncan from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the annual Sahtlam Fire Department event. Little ones can hunt for treats amongst the forest and shrubbery and families are encouraged to stick around and enjoy the park.

Spend Easter Sunday at the HUB for their annual Easter Fair that runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This fundraising event for the non-profit community centre is sure to be a egg-citing time for the whole family. There will be egg hunting in the forest, face painting, a bouncy castle, a pancake breakfast made from scratch plus crafts, music and more. The HUB is located at 2375 Koksilah Rd in Duncan.

On March 31 The Cowichan Rugby Club is hosting their second annual Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 10:30 a.m. at 1860 Herd Rd. Entry is $15 per child 10 and under which includes a basket for the hunt, goodies, and crafts. Snap up a photo op with the Easter Bunny at the balloon arch. To register go to www.cowichanrugby.ca.

Merridale is looking to provide a great experience for the whole family all Easter weekend. Parents can enjoy their time on the orchard deck, while kids take part in the complimentary Easter scavenger hunt throughout 12 acres of orchard. Those who make it to the finish line will be rewarded with a sweet treat. Special menu items for the day include BBQ beef brisket, served with a twice baked potato, Caesar salad and a delicious no bake – Mini Egg cheesecake.

Dive into the Easter fun at Cowichan Aquatic Centre on April 1 to experience a unique underwater Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. til noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m. This day will make a splash with the kids as they will have the chance to snap a photo with old Mr. Cottontail himself.
