It was a perfect spring day with the sun shining on Sunday, April 14, at the Duncan Airport located on Langtry Road as the Duncan Flying Club hosted 27 Air Cadets from #744 Cowichan Squadron for a day of learning and having fun.

The cadets, aged 12-18 years, were divided into five groups to rotate through five stations set up to gain practical knowledge and hands-on skills relating to what goes on around an airport.

An aviation ground school session presented the theory of flight, information about aero engines, metal riveting, fabric covering, and parts of an airplane gave the cadets some ideas about the many aspects of aviation that don’t focus on just flying an airplane.

Volunteers of the flying club who are all very experienced in their fields of expertise presented each topic to an enthusiastic group.

A brief pizza lunch break helped make sure everyone was well nourished to digest all the information presented to them.

It was an event everyone enjoyed together and look forward to doing it again next year, said organizers
